Background
The association Alsace Bande Dessinée (ABD) has organised le Festival Européen de la Bande Dessinée de Strasbourg (The European comic-strip festival of Strasbourg) for the past 3 years.
ABD was created by two Alsatian comic-strip fans in 2007.
Before the first festival (Strasbulles 2008), there were almost no events of note for Comic-strip in the area.
1st Festival (Strasbulles 2008) :
- A successful first event.62 authors supported this festival including Félix Meynet, Jean-luc Masbou, Eric Herenguel, Félix Molinari…
- More than 5000 entries during the festival weekend.
- The festival was supported by a number of sponsors: GROUPAMA, HEINEKEN, IMPREX, VILLE de STRASBOURG, REGION ALSACE and CONSEIL GENERAL DU BAS RHIN.
2nd Festival (Strasbulles 2009) :
- This second event reinforced the importance of the festival on the public, fans and industry professionals.

A hundred cartoonists including Hub, Emile Bravo, Jean-Louis Mourier, Ptiluc did signings throughout the weekend. International cartoonists also participated such as Yannick Paquette, Ariel Olivetti and Paco Diaz… - Close to 10 000 entries were counted during the weekend !
- SNCF, ENEREST and CAISSE D’EPARGNE helped to turn Strasbourg into the European capital of comic-strip.
- A multitude of other businesses and institutions sponsored the festival including France Boissons, Autostadium, Imprex, AMB impression, le CROUS, Stabilo, Clairefontaine, Heinecken…
